A strong start
The target of 305 runs was not easy. India needed a good start. The captain and vice-captain ensured this and settled on the wicket. Both of them started dominating the England bowlers from the very beginning. Rohit was especially looking more aggressive and Gill was hitting fours on occasion. Rohit completed his half-century in 30 balls. Gill reached this figure in 45 balls.
Rohit converted his innings into a century, but Gill was left out. Jamie Overton bowled him out with a brilliant yorker at a total score of 136. Gill hit nine fours and a six in his innings.
Virat disappointed again
After Gill left, Virat Kohli came on the field. The whole stadium resonated seeing Virat and when Virat returned cheaply, there was silence in the whole stadium. On the third ball of the 20th over, Adil Rashid sent him to the pavilion. Adil's ball went past Virat's bat and England appealed. When the umpire gave not out, England took a review. The replay showed that the ball took a slight edge of Virat's bat and the Indian batsman had to return after being out on a personal score of five.
Rohit's century
After Kohli's departure, all eyes were on Rohit Sharma. Everyone was waiting for his century, which this right-handed batsman completed by hitting a six off Rashid on the second ball of the 26th over. Rohit has completed his century with a six for the fifth time. Rohit took 76 balls for this. Four overs later, Rohit's innings also ended. He was caught by Rashid off Liam Livingstone's ball.
Strong start for England
Earlier, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss in this match and this was his only victory. However, Ben Duckett and Phil Salt gave England a good start. Both the batsmen added 81 runs in 10.5 overs for the first wicket. Debutant Varun Chakraborty got Salt caught by Ravindra Jadeja.

Joe Root scores half century, other batsmen fail
Apart from Duckett, the only other England batsman who scored a half-century was former captain Joe Root. However, Gill played an important role in this as he took a brilliant catch while running behind. Pandya did not let captain Butler go beyond 34 runs.
Root was holding on. In such a situation, Rohit called Jadeja back who got this right-handed batsman caught by Kohli. Root became Jadeja's victim for the 13th time.
