Dense fog alert in 14 states, warning of thunderstorms and lightning; weather is going to get worse

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a dense fog alert in 14 states including Uttar Pradesh. Cyclonic circulation has formed at four places across the country. Due to this, a warning of light to heavy rain has been issued at many places. There is a possibility of thunderstorms in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Cold wave conditions will persist in some places of Himachal Pradesh.

A western disturbance cyclonic circulation is formed over northern Pakistan. On the other hand, another cyclonic circulation is formed over south-west Madhya Pradesh. Due to this, changes in the weather will be seen.

On January 23, there is a possibility of scattered rain and snowfall in the western Himalayan region and light rain in western Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan. A cyclonic wind area is formed in eastern Bangladesh and its surrounding areas. Due to this, there is a possibility of thunderstorms in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on January 23 and 24.

  • 23 January: Dense fog will prevail in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy rain warning has been issued in Lakshadweep. Cold wave conditions will continue in Himachal Pradesh. Rain and lightning alert has been issued in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Lakshadweep.
  • January 24: Dense fog is likely in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Rain and lightning warning has been issued in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam. Cold wave conditions will persist in some parts of Himachal Pradesh.
  • January 25: Dense fog will prevail over Himachal Pradesh, western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

In the last 24 hours, rain was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe.
On the other hand, dense fog occurred in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Meghalaya. Visibility here was less than 50 meters. Zero visibility was recorded in Lucknow and surrounding districts. Cold wave like conditions were also seen in some areas of Himachal Pradesh.

  • In North West India, the minimum temperature may fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next three days. However, no significant change will be seen after this.
  • There will be no change in minimum temperature in Central India during the next 24 hours. After this, there will be a drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius.
