Jasprit Bumrah out of Champions Trophy 2025, this batsman was also removed from the team by the selectors, these two players got their place

The BCCI Senior Selection Committee has made two major changes in the Champions Trophy team. Jaspreet Bumrah has been ruled out of this tournament due to injury. Young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been dropped. Bumrah was injured in the Sydney Test match and has been away from cricket since then. Now he will not be able to go to Dubai.

India has suffered a setback before the Champions Trophy-2025. The team's veteran bowler Jaspreet Bumrah has been ruled out of this tournament due to injury. Bumrah will not play in this tournament due to back problem. He suffered this injury in the Sydney Test during the Australia tour.

BCCI announced this on Tuesday. The selection committee has selected Harshit Rana as his replacement. At the same time, the selectors have taken another decision. Opener batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped and mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty has been selected in the team. BCCI has announced the updated squad for the Champions Trophy in which these two changes are there.

There was doubt in place

Bumrah was seen going to the hospital in the middle of the Sydney Test match. He did not even bowl in Australia's second innings. After this, he was not selected in the first two matches of the ODI series against England. Then there was a fear that Bumrah might be out of the Champions Trophy as well.

BCCI said in a statement, "Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy-2025 due to a lower back problem. The Men's Selection Committee has selected Harshit Rana in the team in place of Bumrah. Varun Chakraborty has also been given a place in Team India. This spinner will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal who was part of the initial team."

Rana and Varun are special

Rana did well in the recent ODI and T20 series played against England. He is considered close to Team India's coach Gautam Gambhir. He got a chance in the first Test match on the Australia tour. After this, he also made his T20 and ODI debut. Like Rana, mystery spinner Varun is also considered close to Gambhir. All three were with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

Varun was not selected for the ODI series against England, but he was suddenly given a place in the team in Nagpur. Varun also made his debut in the second ODI in Cuttack and now he will play in the Champions Trophy in place of batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. This decision of the team is surprising. Choosing a spinner as a replacement for a batsman is quite surprising. Varun bowled brilliantly in the five-match series against England. He also took 15 wickets in five matches.

Bumrah at the NCA

Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation process at NCA and a three-member BCCI team was monitoring him. In the Champions Trophy, the Indian team will start its campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 and will face arch-rival Pakistan on February 23. Earlier, it was decided to give Bumrah rest from the first two ODIs of the series against England and there was a possibility that he could return in the third ODI. But due to not being fit for the third ODI, there were doubts about his playing in the Champions Trophy.

According to sources, Bumrah was undergoing rehabilitation process for his lower back injury under the guidance of strength and conditioning coach Rajnikant and physio Tulsi and was also declared medically fit. But there were doubts whether he would be fit before the Champions Trophy or not. After this, Agarkar discussed this matter with coach Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma, after which it was decided that no risk could be taken with Bumrah.

Bumrah's exclusion is a big blow for the Indian team because he has been the team's main bowler in the recent past. He was the team's most successful bowler on the Australia tour by taking 32 wickets and former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has also said that if Bumrah does not play in the Champions Trophy, then India's chances of winning the trophy will be reduced by 30 to 35 percent.

Indian Team for Champions Trophy:

Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakraborty. Dailymintz
