Attempt to gain power for the third time

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal is trying to regain power for the third consecutive time on the basis of its governance record and welfare schemes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making a determined effort to regain the capital after 27 years.

The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years from 1998 to 2013, is trying to make a comeback after failing to win a single seat in the last two elections.

Focus on governance model

The election campaign, which officially ended at 6 pm on Monday, saw a fierce contest between the three main contenders. The AAP focused on its governance model, leading to rallies by Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi across the city.

BJP stalwarts attack Kejriwal's rule

Led by heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, the BJP attacked the AAP on corruption charges and law and order issues. The Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, also ran a vigorous campaign targeting both the AAP and the BJP on various issues.

"Sheesh Mahal" controversy in speeches

The speeches witnessed a fiery debate on issues such as the "Sheesh Mahal" controversy, the quality of Yamuna water and allegations of tampering of voter lists. While governance, law and order and women's welfare were the main points, freebies dominated the pre-poll promises.
