Flight Delays: Air services affected in Delhi due to fog, 500 flights delayed... 24 cancelled; advisory issued
Delhi Fog Fog badly affected air services in Delhi on Wednesday. Nearly 500 flights operating from IGI Airport were delayed, of which more than half of the flights departed with a delay of one hour or more. 24 flights had to be cancelled due to fog, of which 22 were of IndiGo and 2 of SpiceJet. Airlines have issued advisory to save passengers from trouble.

New Delhi. On Wednesday, fog had a huge impact on flight services. Nearly 500 flights operating from IGI Airport were delayed. Nearly half of these flights departed for their destination with a delay of one hour or more.
The effect of fog was such that two dozen flights had to be cancelled. Out of these, 22 flights were of Indigo and the remaining two flights were of SpiceJet. To save passengers from trouble, advisories for passengers were issued by DIAL and airlines throughout the day.
In the advisory, passengers were urged to stay in touch with the airlines for information related to the departure of the flight so that they can get updates. The effect of heavy fog started becoming visible after 7:30 in the morning.
After 7:30, there was hardly any flight that departed on time. The delay in the timetable that started after this continued throughout the day. SpiceJet's 7:55 am flight to Jammu and Akasa's 8 am flight to Goa were delayed by two hours each.
Air India's 8 am flight departed with a delay of three hours. Air India's Siliguri and Indigo's flights were delayed by two and a quarter hours. SpiceJet's flight which was to leave for Patna at 8:30 am departed with a delay of about seven hours.
SpiceJet's flight to Srinagar was also delayed by about four hours. Similarly, IndiGo's flight to Ahmedabad departed with a delay of about six hours. This series of delays kept on increasing with time.
Flights kept getting cancelled one after the other
Due to the delay, many flights had to be cancelled. SpiceJet cancelled flights to Kolkata, Chennai and Pune. Meanwhile, IndiGo cancelled flights to Patna, Varanasi and Darbhanga.
Flights to Guwahati, Kolkata, Raipur, Jaipur, Surat, Goa, Bengaluru, Nagarpur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Dehradun, Amritsar, Lucknow and Bhopal had to be cancelled.
Six flights had to be diverted
Due to fog, six flights had to be diverted to Jaipur. Around 8 am, flights coming from Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune were diverted to Jaipur. After this, flights from Mumbai and Cochin were diverted to Jaipur between 10:15 am and 10:30 am. Apart from this, the flight from Thiruvananthapuram was diverted to Jaipur. Dailymintz
